Wish Marked (Stones & Curses Book 1) – Lissa Bolts

Synopsis

Hi. I’m Nora, and I bring people’s worst nightmares to life.

Everyone needs a hobby, right?

Gah. Don’t look at me like that. It’s not like I do it on purpose. I’m cursed. Like bonafide needle-pricking, frog-kissing, poison-apple cursed. Except worse because in addition to slowly chipping away at my soul, this thing will eventually kill me too.

Let me start over…

It all goes back to wishes. The damned things come true around me but in the worst possible way. And I don’t mean that lightly because, well… sometimes people wind up dead.

The kicker? Once I grant my quota of ill-fated desires, that’s it for me. Finito. I know because there were others before me. Just our sick family heritage. We screw people over, and then we die. Hell of a way to live, right?

I think I might be the last one too. I’ve searched my whole life and found nothing. No answers. No cure. Not one hint of magic in this entire world besides me.

Well, that is… until today.

This is the first book in the all-new urban fantasy series: Stones & Curses. If you like fierce heroines with hearts of gold, edge-of-your-seat adventure, a touch of swoony romance, and enough mind-blowing treachery to leave you wondering what in the world just happened, this is the series for you.

Review

I. Am. Obsessed.

Nora grants wishes. She’s sort of a fairy god mother, except for the fact that the wishes are realized in the worst possible way, and that every wish conceded actually brings Nora closer to her death…

Ok, maybe it’s not like a fairytale.

The truth is, Nora is cursed. Same as all the women in her family before her. She’s doomed to die once she fulfills her 100th wish and also to live with the guilt of the consequences of every granted but ruined wish (like the game of ruining someone else’s wish but this is her real life).

Jess, her foster sister at some point in her life and the only one who knows her secret, forces her to keep the hope to break the curse and with this idea convinces her to call a number that claims to be able to break curses.

Everything that had happened last night was downright impossible. Nobody would ever believe me. Even Jess would have me committed. But I knew the truth. I was alive. And magic, Holy Hogwarts. Magic was out there.

From this point, her life turns upside down…. Yes, even more so than it already was, when Nora discovers the cure for her curse and goes in search of it with Rafe. Typical asshole with a heart of gold. Obviously, we love him.

“What was that?” I wheezed. “Local wildlife,” he replied, taking my hand. “Just don’t touch its dorsal spikes, and you’ll be fine.” What did it say about me that the feeling of his warm fingers around mine made me forget about all the danger surrounding me? Wait, dorsal spikes?

I definitely love Lissa’s writing style. The descriptions are enough for you to see the scene clearly from Nora’s eyes, but never becoming boring, on the contrary, the reading was very fast.

“How did you know this was mine?”
He taped his nose.
My mouth dropped open.
“Are you saying I smell?”
“Beautiful, everyone smells when you’re a wolf.”

I devoured this book and enjoyed it from start to finish. Nora and Rafe are two incredible characters whose interactions make you laugh out loud and sigh at the same time. (Enemies to lovers baby).

He had the perfect amount of muscle tone—not too much, not too little, but lust right. Just right. I meant just right.

Lissa has become without a doubt one of my favorite authors. Despite her tendency to break my heart into little pieces. (To be honest, maybe precisely because of this).

Not much left to say, just run to read this book.

Go.

Now.

Get out of here and get to read it!

Still here?

Bye bye 💕
