En este libro seguimos la historia de Luella, una chica normal, que trabaja como sanadora de su pueblo gracias a su don con las plantas (aprovecho de sugerir que vayan a ver Los Diarios de una Boticaria. Que buena serie jaja).

When I was a child, I imagined that they grew only for me. But the whole forest seemed more alive back then. It’s still alive now, but in a dulled and quiet way. With age and time, I lost an imaginary friend.

En este libro seguimos la historia de Luella, una chica normal, que trabaja como sanadora de su pueblo (aprovecho de sugerir que vayan a ver Los Diarios de una Boticaria. Que buena serie jaja).

Tipo Juegos del Hambre, que se realiza la cosecha todos los años, en Capton se realiza una búsqueda de esposa para el rey de los elfos cada 100 años.

Normalmente es fácil encontrar a la Reina Humana, pues es la única que tiene magia. Sin embargo, ha pasado un año desde que se está buscando a la nueva reina y no hay señales de ella.

Luella y sus padres están muy tristes por la joven elegida y su familia, pero al menos ella ya tiene 19 años y es muy mayor para no haber mostrado ninguna habilidad mágica.

Este año, el Rey Elfo en persona llega junto a su comitiva a Capton para buscar a su reina.

Voy a poner un pedacito del libro aquí:

La encabeza un hombre montado en un caballo hecho de sombras, cuya forma se contonea y difumina a cada movimiento. El largo pelo negro azabache del hombre le llega hasta los hombros; veo incluso un reflejo de lo que parece morado, o azul, a la mortecina luz del atardecer.

Literalmente me enamoré de Eldas en el primer momento que se apareció un mechón de su pelo en escena 😍.

No es realmente un spoiler mencionar que Luella resultó ser la Reina Humana que tanto buscaban y se ve obligada a casarse con Eldas para salvar Midway con sus poderes, y Capton de la guerra contra los elfos.

La verdad es que Luella la pasa bastante mal entre tener que dejar a su familiar, a su pueblo sin su sanadora y tener que vivir con los elfos que no tienen el más mínimo interés en ella, salvo usar sus poderes para devolver la primavera a Midway.

Además, su “esposo” es un hombre poderoso, pero extremadamente frío quien, si bien se preocupó de que todas sus necesidades estuvieran cubiertas, ni siquiera intenta conocerla.

Planto los pies en el suelo y me niego a dejar que me haga sentir pequeña. Seré el capullo que brota de la roca gris de este lugar. Seré la flor que se abre a pesar de la sombra de su rey.

Elise, la autora, escribió este libro en pandemia con la intención de crear una historia con un final feliz, en un mundo que le permitiera escapar y que permitiera a sus lectores hacer lo mismo.

Creo que sus intenciones se cumplieron con creces. Personalmente me transporté a Midway y conecté con los personajes, incluso siendo Luella muy diferente a lo que yo esperaba, en un buen sentido.

Podemos ver cómo Eldas se abre poco a poco, y como Luella aprende a manejar sus poderes, mientras ambos buscan como terminar la necesidad de la existencia de una Reina Humana, sin condenar a Midway en el intento.

No estoy contenta con esta reseña, porque siento que no le hace justicia al libro. Pero sepan que lo amé de principio a fin, y que, me gustó tanto este mundo que comencé de inmediato con Un Baile con el Principe de los Fae.
La saga de “Unidos por la Magia” son libros autoconclusivos ambientados en el mismo mundo, que pueden ser leídos en cualquier órden. Sin embargo, yo prefiero leerlos en el orden que fueron escritos por preferencia personal. De todas formas recomendaría leer este de primero, ya que me han mencionado que explica mejor el mundo en que se adentran todas las historias.

Si siento que debo agregar que no me gustó nada la traducción al español. Yo leí el libro en inglés en mi kindle, pero tengo el español en físico.

Por este mundo. Por el siguiente. Por la gente a la que conocemos y los vínculos que compartimos.

—¿Por qué brindamos esta vez? —pregunto. Eldas lo piensa unos instantes.
—Por mañana.
—¿Qué pasará mañana?
—Todo. Brindemos por que mañana esté abierto a todas las posibilidades. Y por que seamos lo bastante atrevidos y tengamos la ambición suficiente para aprovecharlas.

I’ve never been in a real fight before. I studied how to heal, not hurt. But I’d never been married before, crossed the Fade, had magic, slept with a man, or loved like this before. I’ve been able to take all those firsts in stride. I can do this.

I can’t take her words. I don’t want to hear them from her. I wanted to hear them from Eldas. No, I didn’t want to hear them at all. It’s impossible, we can’t love each other. Not under these circumstances, not so quickly.

I mourn for the loss of time. I mourn for all that could’ve been. I mourn for the sweet memories I will never have a chance to make because the love I might dare say bloomed between us was doomed by circumstance before it could ever truly begin. I mourn his skin underneath the pads of my fingers, his silky hair brushing over me, the gravel that could rumble in his voice. I even find I already miss the view of Quinnar through the castle windows, and the festivals I never got to see.

There’s even been some speculation that our love itself was what broke the cycle of the Human Queens. That is a history I will be certain to rewrite. Love is powerful, but so is the hard work Eldas and I have put in. The hard work we will continue to do to be good rulers for this land.

There’s nothing more than the quiet whisper of magic on my skin, humming from across the Fade—a magic that reminds me of where I’ve come from, as I look out on where I am.
